Emerging Adults

The rapid growth of technology, and ever changing social and economic conditions, means that in many spheres of life, you face challenges that would have been unknown even five or ten years ago. In many ways, you may feel that you have to blaze your own trail through this shifting and uncertain landscape.

You must keep pace with equally rapid shifts in gender and sexual categories, the nature of relationships and the ways people enter into and sustain them.

This period of transition has lifelong significance as a critical phase of preparation for adulthood

At the Center for Emerging Adulthood we devote ourselves to keeping track of the conditions facing you in your life. We have in-depth understanding of the bewildering conditions that you face and what it takes to survive and to thrive in the contemporary world.

We offer you a custom designed program of individual and group psychotherapy  supplemented as needed by ancillary services aimed at your optimal growth and development.

Parents and Families

When a child struggles, the entire family struggles.

Parents must sometimes walk a fine line when they think professional mental health services may be helpful to their adolescent or young adult children.  The autonomy of this age group must be respected; in any case, mental health services will be optimally helpful when the recipient is fully on board, notwithstanding questions they may have about their treatment questions which they will be encouraged to discuss with their therapist. On the other hand, parents may notice indications, not fully recognized by their late adolescent/young adult child that he or she might benefit from professional services.  In such cases, we are prepared to offer suggestions to parents as to how they might tactfully handle the situation.

We partner with families and any other professionals in your child’s life to make sure they get the support they deserve.

“In some respects, the analyst’s role is analogous to that of the ‘designated driver’ at a party… Someone has to be mindful of the bigger picture.”

– Stephen Mitchell, psychoanalyst, excerpt from “Influence and Autonomy in Psychoanalysis”
